Knock & Great Dun Fell - A day early

Another escape from the lakes & a trip into the Northern Pennines to Knock Fell & Great Dun Fell. Unfortunately the cloud base dropped once we had set off so no summit views :( and I was a day
early because Monday & Tuesday finally brought sunshine. Had a poke around some of the old mine workings & hoped to find the Gloster Meteor crash site between Knock Fell and the 761 spot height but visibility was too poor.

  1. That bit of the Pennine Way in your photos is a real mess isn't it! Luckily, I've never fancied doing that walk. And definitely 'eek' to the mine shaft - would be really dangerous in snow! I'm dying to go up and see the radar station on Great Dun Fell though. That farm would make someone a wonderful house (if they had lots of money).

Where did you park to start those?

  2. The shaft came as a bit of a shock, especially with two dogs off the lead :o. I'm also dying to go & see the radar station too - I'll just have to do it again. Carol, there's a small car park with toilets in Dufton (plenty of parking through the village too); I also think there is some parking on the road heading to the Great Dun Fell access road past the Christian Centre in Knock village.
