Glaramara to Seathwaite - First snowy wander of 2014

The forecast for today was pretty poor and as the day progressed it was meant to decline with blizzards & 90mph gusts forecast for the afternoon. As dire weather is now becoming the norm the only solution - an early start and a shortish route over Glaramara & Allen Crags should be finished before the weather closed in. Seathwaite Fell was included as a last minute summit so the 'weather' hit just after passing Styhead Tarn. Strangely only saw three people all day, there was only five cars parked at Seathwaite and ours was the only one parked near Thornythwaite Farm/Mountain View cottages.

Early morning: Comb Gill & Comb Head, better than forecast...

fairly high cloud base...

as predicted it goes a bit pair shaped over Dale Head...

and of course on Galarmara, hit by wet hail...

half way up the 30' scramble, the view up...

the view down...

Glaramara's summit...

the hail passes and a glimpse of the Langdale Pikes...

back in the clouds, Allen Crags summit...

Sprinkling Tarn...

approaching Seathwaite Fell, an opportunist Wainwright summit..

the weather's not too bad...

not too bad above Styhead Tarn either...

a few drops of sleety rain by the stretcher box...

Styhead Tarn before the wind picks up & the rain arrives...

getting increasingly miserable, descending to Stockley Bridge

the small boggy ground near Mountain View Cottages on the Thornythwaite Farm Road now has a parking charge of £3.00...
