A circuit of Barkbethdale & Southerndale - The dog passes 700

I had time this morning for a quick dash out, so cutting out travelling time and walking something close would mean more time on the hill. Fortunately one of my local hills is Skiddaw, it may lack some of the dramatic scenery & excitement of the other Lakes 3000 footers but when approached over Longside Edge it is still a fine hill.

Today the dog would pass his 700th Wainwright (not including Outliers!).

The view up Southerndale from Watches - Skiddaw to Ullock Pike...

'The Edge', on a clear day Scotland can be spotted over the Solway Firth...

the majority of the climb done, Ullock Pike & Longside Edge

Ullock Pike summit, looking over Dodd up Derwentwater...

view back down Longside Edge to Ullock Pike...

Long Side the dog's tally hits 700, Skiddaw in cloud...

the route to the rather bland Carl Side...

Carsleddam, Keswick & Derwentwater from Carl Side...

Carl Side Tarn...

last glimpse down Southerndale before the cloud...

severe wind chill...

travelling light so I didn't hang around for long...

out of the cloud approaching Broad End...

descending...

down Barkbethdale...

Skiddaw from the Sledgate...

leaving Southerndale, cloud just touching Skiddaw's summit...

always wondered if this is a standing stone???
